Successful organizations and exceptional leaders must have a clear vision of where
they want to go. Over the years, Scout and I have facilitated and participated in a
host of strategic planning sessions. Although strategy can be a bit dry and tedious-
we always try to incorporate an element of fun into the planning process. Strategic
planning can be exciting and is a necessary part of the development process.
Creating a vision that is clear and sustainable is paramount for companies to grow
and thrive.

People relate to stories and when we teach strategy, I love the story Scout shares
with our teams. She describes a scene in the original movie, Alice in Wonderland,
where Alice gets lost looking for the white rabbit and can’t decide which way to
go. She approaches a fork in the road, where signs are pointing “UP” “Down”
“This Way,” and “That Way.” She says, “Oh I wonder which way I ought to go?” Suddenly, she hears singing and looks up to see a smiling Cheshire cat dangling on a limb. He continues to sing and turns to leave when she frantically says “Oh wait-don’t go, please, I just wanted to ask you which way I ought to go?” The Cheshire cat with his big toothy grin says, “Well that depends on where you want to get to?” Alice replies, “Oh it doesn’t matter, as long as I….” and the wise cat interrupts with “Then it really doesn’t matter which way you go.”
In life and leadership, it absolutely matters which way you go. It’s your
responsibility as a leader to develop a strategic focus, and to create a clear vision
for you and others to follow. Do you have a vision and strategy planned out for the
future? Or are you like Alice and don’t know which direction you should go or
how to get there? If you are unclear, let us help you create an awesome vision and
develop your strategic focus that serves as your compass for a productive and
successful future. An old elder once asked Scout, “What are you gonna’ buy with
your attention today?” You see, where you put your attention is what you will get.
Your attention is the money that buys your life. So, what will you buy with your
attention today?
